Deutsche Lufthansa AG to lease 38 aircraft from struggling rival Air Berlin Plc in a deal that throws a lifeline to the smaller sector player. While the so-called wet-lease agreement will allow Lufthansa to expand further, this expansion is not large enough to require a ban on the deal. Under its terms, Air Berlin will still be responsible for maintaining the aircraft and providing flight crew while at the same time it will reduce its excess capacity and reduce the costs for its restructuring. The agreement is set to run for six years.
