Abengoa, one of the most responsible technology companies with the best corporate governance of 2020

  • The Merco ranking of CSR and Corporate Governance of Spain, which was released this week, consideres it as the third most responsible technological/industrial company in the past year.

January 15th, 2021 - Abengoa, the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructure, energy and water sectors, has been recognized in the Merco (Corporate Reputation Business Monitor) ranking as the third most responsible technological/industrial company with the best corporate governance in Spain in 2020, only behind Siemens (first position) and Corporación Mondragón (second position) .

Abengoa considers sustainability as one of the main cornerstones of its strategy and a differential and priority element. For this reason, since 2003, it has published the activities carried out in the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) report to offer a transparent and global vision of the company's performance in terms of sustainability.

In 2019, the new Strategic Sustainability Plan (PES for its abbreviation in Spanish) was approved, and it sets the framework for action and the strategic lines of the company, defining specific objectives and actions in accordance with the principles set out in the CSR Policy that allow the company to respond to different current challenges, mitigating risks, strengthening stakeholder confidence and enhancing corporate responsibility, as recognized by Merco in its sector ranking.

To prepare the recognized ranking, Merco has carried out an exhaustive and detailed analysis of 10,082 surveys, five evaluations and twelve sources of information. This evaluation follows the standards and codes of ESOMAR (European Society for Opinion and Market Research) and more than 50 management indicators of companies' Corporate Social Responsibility are evaluated.

Merco has had the participation of 1,141 executives of large companies, 84 CSR experts, 82 economic information journalists, 32 members of government, 72 financial analysts, 63 social media managers, 88 heads of NGOs, 71 from unions and 79 heads of consumer associations, as well as 8,300 citizens.
