Jan 31 (Reuters) - Federal Reserve policymakers have some distance to go to achieve a "soft landing" for the economy, with inflation falling and employment and growth still largely intact, central bank Chair Jerome Powell said on Wednesday.

"We are not declaring victory," Powell said at a press conference after the Fed's first policy meeting of 2024 at which officials left interest rates unchanged but signaled rate reductions were coming. (Reporting By Dan Burns Editing by Chris Reese)
