The Joint Research Center of the European Commission made research and approved 'Sustainable Energy Action Plan' of Yerevan (SEAP), which was worked out within the frames of EU 'Covenant of Mayors'. The program includes measures aimed at energy saving, energy efficiency and renewable energy use in such sectors as transport, street lighting, public services and in residential and public buildings. SEAP was worked out by a group of experts of Energy Efficiency Fund in teamwork with the specialists of Yerevan Municipality and under the financial support of UNDP in Armenia. Implementation of the actions scheduled by UNDP will make it possible to reduce emissions by 21% by 2020 due to which energy consumption in all municipal infrastructures and in transport sector will reduce by 16%.
It should be noted that the city administration has already started the implementation of a number of activities aimed at energy efficiency increase in such sectors as street lighting. public buildings transport.
We'd like to note that 'Covenant of Mayors' is a flagship initiative of EU joining local, regional and national authorities in keeping the obligations of reduction of CO2 emissions by not less than 20 % by 2020 by means of contribution to 'Green economics' development and improvement of the quality of life. Up today more than 7200 cities worldwide have already joined the initiative.
