Protecting West Virginians Top Priority For House Democrats

Job creation, Seniors, Education major focus for legislative session and beyond

(Charleston, WV)- Today is the first day of the 2018 Legislative Session and House Democrats outline priorities to include jobs, seniors, education, economic growth and protecting West Virginians.

Apparent in the press conference held by House Democrats as well as a release from the House Democratic Caucus, House Democrats stress that first and foremost the Legislature should be focused on creating jobs and Democrats believe that increased funding for tourism and economic development are key in creating new jobs in West Virginia.

Protecting our seniors and supporting the exemption of Social Security benefits from personal income tax is pivotal for seniors and investing in our children's education and expanding access to higher education is vital for the future of West Virginia.

Democrats created the PROMISE scholarship and House Democrats believe it is time to expand PROMISE it to strengthen and expand access to higher education.

House Democrats made clear their priority to protect West Virginians. 'We cannot give big business a tax break on the backs of West Virginians,' said Delegate Boggs. Democrats pledge to support and encourage business growth, but not at the expense of West Virginia residents, which is why House Democrats continue to stand against any taking of private property by rich, out-of-state corporations. House Democrats stand strongly against any version of forced pooling that forcibly takes the property of West Virginia residents.
