Plans to build four new bungalows on farmland in Great Oakley have been rejected.

Cooper Bros (Gt Oakley) Ltd put forward the scheme for 0.2 hectares of land to the north of Stones Green Road.

The outline application was refused by Tendring District Council (TDC) as the site is outside the development boundary and failed two of the three necessary criteria for being sustainable.

Although it is economically sustainable, the Council turned it down on social and environmental grounds.

A TDC spokesman said: 'The proposed development is considered to be unsustainable due to the social and environmental harm which is not outweighed by the economic benefits of four bungalows.'

Great Oakley Parish Council said that it had previously supported homes on the site through the draft Local Plan process - but the location is not now included in the current preferred options document.

TDC also received five letters of objection from residents.
