At the invitation of the World Economic Forum (WEF), WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya participated in the Annual Meeting 2020 held from 20 to 23 January 2020 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, where he met with global leaders, explained the important role played by Customs and contributed to various sessions.

Under the overarching theme of 'Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World', collaborative approach for the protection of the environment as well as multilateralism and the appropriate use of technology were some of the topics discussed throughout the Annual Meeting. Secretary General Mikuriya addressed political and business leaders on the WCO's focus on sustainability, including the fight against illegal wildlife trade and waste trafficking as well as the use of disruptive technologies. He emphasized the importance of data quality and standardization to secure and facilitate trade supply chain in the era of digital technology.

The high-level participants welcomed the WCO's input to the sessions and its collaboration through a range of initiatives.
