MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., Jan. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun National Bank ("the Bank"), the primary subsidiary of Sun Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNBC), is pleased to announce that it will host three Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites in partnership with United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey and the Campaign for Working Families in 2017. The Bank has traditionally provided complimentary VITA locations in Burlington and Cumberland Counties. In 2017, the Bank and United Way are adding a third VITA location in Atlantic County.

The VITA program is an IRS-supported tax preparation service, through which trained volunteers prepare taxes at no cost for qualifying individuals and families. Nearly 100 Sun National Bank employees will serve as VITA volunteers in 2017. "The VITA program helps low- to moderate-income working families in our communities with free tax preparation assistance," said Thomas M. O'Brien, President & CEO. "We are pleased to donate our resources, including our facilities and supplies as well as the time, energy and expertise of our employees to this worthy cause of community development. These programs have a beneficial impact on families."

Last year, VITA volunteers filed more than 29,000 tax returns across the region, which returned more than $41 million to local communities. In addition to providing free tax preparation services, VITA also connects low-to-moderate income families with valuable tax credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit, which can return as much as $6,318 to qualifying taxpayers.

Beginning in January, VITA tax preparation services will be available at the following Sun National Bank locations:

-- Cumberland County: 226 Landis Avenue, Vineland, N.J
-- Burlington County: 99 Hartford Road, Medford, N.J.
-- Atlantic County: 599 New Road, Linwood, N.J.

Bank employees will serve as greeters at these VITA locations, and provide assistance to program participants. Individuals and families can learn more about the program, including qualifications for VITA, what information to bring to the tax site, hours, and more at www.cwfphilly.org or www.UnitedForImpact.org/VITA.
