StudentUniverse, the world’s leading travel booking service for students and youth, today announced that 10 of the top 20 record sales days in company history occurred in 2017. The company has broken year-over-year growth records each year since 2012, and Cyber Monday 2017 was the company’s top sales day ever, beating previous records by 33%.

In 2017, StudentUniverse announced new or expanded partnerships with 18 carriers (including: WOW air, Alaska Air, Avianca Brazil, Hong Kong Airlines, Vietnam Airlines and AirBaltic) allowing students to book discounted travel to many new corners of the world. 91 airlines now provide student fares through StudentUniverse’s site and mobile app. Additionally, StudentUniverse began selling basic economy fares, same-day fares and discounted premium economy, business and first class fares with 62 carriers.

In the first few months United Airlines and American Airlines’ basic economy tickets were sold, they represented 12-15% of StudentUniverse’s domestic bookings within the US (domestic bookings as a whole are up 8.99% YoY). Searches for discounted premium economy, business and first class tickets began as soon as they went live. Asia has dominated thus far, making up 51% of premium cabin searches (compared to 33% of overall site searches) and 46% of premium cabin bookings.

“It’s been exciting rolling out new fare and cabin types to give our student travelers a wider selection of options. Given that US fares are predicted to rise this year, we expect to see students reviewing more options prior to booking,” said Mike Cleary, Global Managing Director, StudentUniverse. “Additionally, as more students become aware of the value and inclusions of our discounted premium economy, business and first class tickets, we expect a larger share of our bookings to/from Asia to be in premium cabins in 2018. International students value comfort and amenities when traveling and are willing to pay more for higher service levels.”

The growth in mobile bookings (up 68% YoY) has also been a propeller for StudentUniverse in 2017. Monthly sessions in the app increased 37% YoY and hotel bookings in the app increased 258% YoY, with 24.54% more travelers taking advantage of member-only rates YoY.

StudentUniverse continues to help students see the world for less. The company offered 97,256 exclusive discounts on top of already discounted flights in 2017, saving travelers an additional $2,095,648.
