The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index decreased 0.3% in the third quarter.

The index has declined for eight consecutive quarters, reflecting market conditions in the rental and leasing of heavy machinery and equipment for construction, transportation, mining and forestry. It was the smallest decrease since the fourth quarter of 2014.

Construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment declined 0.6%, while office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment rose 0.9%.

Year-over-year change

The index was down 3.9% in the third quarter compared with the same quarter of 2015. Construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment decreased 4.9%, while office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment declined 0.6%.

The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index (CIMERLSPI) measures price changes of rental and leasing activities for the commercial and industrial machinery and equipment industry.

Data are available at the Canada level only.

With each release, data for the previous quarter may have been revised. Data are also subject to an annual revision with the release of second quarter data of the following reference year. The index is not seasonally adjusted.

The CIMERLSPI combines the North American Industry Classification System codes 53242 and 53249.
