Center for Responsive Schools is a nonprofit that is the sole source provider of Responsive Classroom, an evidence-based approach to K-8 education widely associated with greater teacher effectiveness, higher student achievement, and improved school climate. The Center for Responsive Schools Board has a long held vision expressed in its strategic mission "to partner with elementary and middle schools nationwide to ensure that every student in every school receives high quality education every day."

While its program name, Responsive Classroom, has a strong brand identity--respected and recognized nationally and internationally as a transformative approach to teaching and school leadership--its nonprofit name, Northeast Foundation for Children, did not have strong brand identity and was more reflective of early development than the current direction.

"We believe the name of our organization should reflect our mission and our commitment to excellence in schools and should carry us forward to our future," said Lora Hodges, Executive Director of Center for Responsive Schools. "This name captures the spirit of our central purpose and our intention to exist in the education world as entrepreneurial, innovative, global, scientific, and relevant."

ABOUT RESPONSIVE CLASSROOM
The Responsive Classroom approach to education was developed over 30 years ago by public school educators who envisioned a way of teaching that would bring together academic and social learning throughout the school day. It has been recognized by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) as one of the most well-designed, evidence-based social and emotional learning programs. CRS offers Responsive Classroom on-site consulting services to schools and districts; workshops and institutes for educators in locations around the country; and numerous books, videos, and other resources for teachers and administrators. Each year, CRS provides training for more than 10,000 teachers and administrators from over 40 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, and the international school community.
