(Fort McMurray, AB - Jan. 9, 2018) - Council heard a presentation on the new Diversity & Inclusion Community Plan 2017-2022 at its public meeting on Tuesday night.

The Plan, presented by the Regional Advisory Committee on Inclusion, Diversity and Equality (RACIDE), is part of the Municipality's commitment as a member of the Canadian Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination (CCMARD). It outlines priority areas identified by Wood Buffalo social profit agencies, businesses and residents that would improve diversity, inclusion and equality in the region.

'RACIDE is pleased to present the new Diversity & Inclusion Community Plan, a plan developed by the community for the community,' said Bindu Shah, RACIDE chair. 'We look forward to working with community partners to implement this plan and further our vision of Wood Buffalo as a welcoming and inclusive community for all.'

The Plan was informed by an extensive research and public engagement process beginning in 2015. A workbook that outlines community actions will be completed in the first quarter of 2018, which reflects the information generated from engagements with focus groups and public surveys.
