Patrick Murphy, partner with the national law firm of Fox Rothschild LLP, will host "Taking the Hill," a one-hour show on MSNBC dedicated to veterans and the issues they face navigating their postwar lives.

The show, live from 30 Rockefeller Center, airs on Sunday, January 26 at 1 p.m. ET and will continue to air on the fourth Sunday of every month throughout 2014.

"These stories of returning veterans are so important in breaking down the civil-military divide, and I'm looking forward to sharing more of these stories and inspiring people about public service," said Murphy, who is now the only combat veteran hosting a veteran-oriented show on a major news network.

In a review of an earlier segment that Murphy hosted on MSNBC, Ward Carroll, editor of Military.com, said, "'Taking the Hill' is a refreshing approach in a world that has too often rolled out one retired general after another for their so-called expertise. And in choosing Murphy as the show's host, MSNBC has shown a desire to get it right, which in turn will serve veterans and the public that should understand and appreciate them for the right reasons."

As America's first Iraq veteran elected to Congress and a member of the West Point Board of Visitors, Murphy has a long history of service in both the public and private sector. While representing Pennsylvania's Eighth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives after his 2006 election, Murphy became a champion for his fellow veterans. He was the author of the bill repealing the Defense Department's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy and helped lead passage of the 21st Century GI Bill as well as the passage of the largest increase in veterans benefits in the history of the nation.

Murphy helped to deliver the National Veterans Cemetery to Bucks County, Pa., for 350,000 veterans in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

In his military career, Murphy was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Program and went on to serve in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps. An airborne and air assault paratrooper, Murphy immediately volunteered after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and deployed twice, serving in Tuzia, Bosnia (2002) and Baghdad, Iraq (2003-2004). While in Baghdad, as a captain in the Army's U.S. 82nd Airborne Division, he prosecuted high level terrorists and was awarded the Bronze Star for Service.

Murphy earned his J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 1999 and his B.A. from King's College in 1996.
