A comprehensive line of connected solutions is now available to clinicians across the province of Ontario through a partnership between Welch Allyn and ABELMed Inc. Welch Allyn vital signs devices now interface with one of Ontario's leading national electronic medical record (EMR) solutions, ABELMed® EHR-EMR/PM--a fully integrated EMR and practice management software. The integration of Welch Allyn devices will allow electronic transfer of patient test results directly between the company's connected diagnostic devices and the patient's medical summary section of the EMR--eliminating the need for manual data entry by providers, increasing efficiency and alleviating the risk of transcription and latency errors.

"By teaming with a leading healthcare technology company like ABELMed Inc., we are able to provide our EMR-ready devices to more healthcare providers throughout Ontario," said John Tierney, SVP, Americas, Welch Allyn. "By offering vital signs devices that have the capability of connecting multiple EMR systems, we can help reduce some of the workflow pressures and safety issues these providers are facing so they can be more productive and focus on their most important task--enhancing patient care."

The ABELMed EHR-EMR/PM software delivers comprehensive clinical and practice management functionality that includes the capability to capture information using voice dictation, typing, mouse clicks and Tablet PC handwriting and directly transmit the data to an EMR. The agreement allows Welch Allyn connected vital signs devices to integrate with the software, offering healthcare providers in Ontario robust capabilities for electronic health and practice management. The Welch Allyn devices that integrate with the ABELMed software include:

  • Connex® Integrated Wall System
  • Connex® Vital Signs Monitor (VSM) 6000 Series
  • Spot Vital Signs® LXi Device
  • Vital Signs Monitor 300 Series
  • Connex® ProBP TM 3400 Digital Blood Pressure Device

"The interface between the Welch Allyn solutions and ABELMed software is a significant step forward to increasing the usability of devices already in healthcare practices and improving overall workflow," said Dr. V.J. Kulkarni, medical director at ABELMed Inc. "Healthcare professionals can now save time by avoiding duplication of efforts while streamlining documentation. We are proud to say the two solutions complement one another exceptionally well."
