SALT LAKE CITY, UT and FAIRFIELD, CA--(Marketwired - Jan 16, 2014) - NorthBay Healthcare, a 182-bed nonprofit health system in the San Francisco Bay Area, has selected Health Catalyst's Late-Binding™ Data Warehouse and Analytics platform to improve its overall operations by revealing actionable intelligence from disparate clinical, financial and performance measurement databases.

The Health Catalyst platform will give NorthBay's leaders and clinicians a unified view of data from electronic health records (EHR) and other enterprise applications across the health system's two hospitals and multiple community-based primary care and specialty clinics. With timely, actionable information consolidated into a single source, NorthBay will be able to quickly adapt to changing market conditions and identify opportunities for key process improvements.

The health system will host the Health Catalyst platform via Software-as-a-Service licensing for use in its hospitals and over the Internet in its Center for Primary Care, which serves more than 50 affiliated physicians through clinics in Fairfield, Vacaville and Green Valley.

"In a highly competitive market like ours, it's critical that we operate with minimal waste while providing great value for our patients, and we're confident Health Catalyst can help us accomplish both goals," said Paul Alcala, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of NorthBay. "By taking control of our data and applying cutting-edge analytics, we'll be able to make better, more informed strategic decisions, such as where to open new clinics, what service lines to keep or close, and how to improve wasteful care processes."

NorthBay's Chief Medical Officer, Mitesh Patel, MD, MBA, added, "NorthBay is heavily invested in the success of our aligned physicians and we believe Health Catalyst will help by giving them the insight they need, when they need it, to successfully manage complex new undertakings like population health management."

Health Catalyst's Population Explorer solution, a breakthrough in population health management analytics, is among the base of 14 standard content-driven analytics applications deployed with the EDW. In just one dashboard, Population Explorer enables users to explore key metrics across 1,000 registries -- the equivalent of 1,000 dashboards of administrative, patient satisfaction and clinical data. Users can view different patient populations by case counts, readmission rates, charges, revenue and length of stay, among up to 100 other metrics. Highly intuitive, Population Explorer also enables clinical and other non-IT staff to write their own inclusion and exclusion criteria and build their own population cohorts to meet their specific information needs. The solution is just one example of Health Catalyst's nearly 100 self-service analytics applications that relieve the reporting burden on IT staff and rapidly distribute knowledge throughout the organization.

The Health Catalyst platform includes an analytics framework that enables rapid development of hundreds of new analytics applications to solve both basic and complex reporting needs for a healthcare delivery system. As a result, clients are able to implement changes in process and behavior much faster and more broadly, scaling the systematic improvement of clinical quality and operational efficiency.

"Providers today are faced with unprecedented new models of care that demand a revolution in the way they think about and use data to improve operations and care delivery," said Dan Burton, CEO of Health Catalyst. "We are thrilled that NorthBay Healthcare has chosen Health Catalyst as the foundation of their strategy to use data and analytics to improve their overall performance and quality of care."

Built for today's needs while adaptable for tomorrow's, Health Catalyst's Late-Binding™ data warehousing and analytics platform normalizes disparate data sources and enables rich meta data management that facilitates data access, discovery, analysis and reporting. The approach not only is faster and more agile than traditional "early-binding" enterprise data warehouses, but it also addresses the need for clinical analysis of near-real time information to track and improve care for whole populations of patients.

Health Catalyst was recently the highest-rated among healthcare analytics companies in the Chilmark 2013 Clinical Analytics for Population Health Market Trends Report.
