Ningbo Port imported 684,000 cubic meters in 3,970 batches, worth $200.4 million timber in 2013, a year-on-year increase of 44.4 percent and 39.9 percent respectively, said Ningbo Inspection and Quarantine Bureau yesterday. Both the amount and the trading volume of timber import hit record high.

Ningbo mainly imported timber from 57 countries and regions in Southeast Asia, Western Europe, North America, Australia and Russia. The city saw a sharp jump in frequency, the value and volume of timber import in 2013 over the previous year.

Ningbo Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has kept tight control on timber imports. All timber import products are subject to the imported food and agricultural products management system. Importers are under classified management and eligible to the most convenient mode of inspection and supervision according to the results of the risk assessment of their imported products.
