HANNIBAL - In light of dropping temperatures today and continued precipitation expected, the Missouri Department of Transportation's Northeast District is issuing a travel advisory during the afternoon and evening of Thursday, January 11. 'There is significant concern for black ice on roads and bridges, despite our treatment today and tonight,' explained Jennifer Hinson, district maintenance and traffic engineer. MoDOT crews will continue to be out in most of northeast Missouri to put down material where it is needed and monitor roads and bridges. 'The pavement could be deceiving, especially this afternoon and evening,' she said. Realizing many area residents will be commuting home from work today, she suggests planning ahead, taking extra time, driving slowly and cautiously, and always wearing a seat belt.

MoDOT's online traveler information map at www.modot.org is the best source of information for road conditions, displaying the condition of the major roads. Minor roads are not shown on the map, and tomorrow morning these can be expected to have some ice and slush. Customer service representatives are available 24/7 at 1-888-275-6636 (ASK MODOT).
