Maeci

MacFrut, the international fruit and vegetable fair organised by Cesena Fiera, is scheduled to run at Rimini Fiera from 10 to 12 May and sees China as a partner country for Italian kiwis (Italy being the top European producer with 500 tonnes) and Basilicata as a partner region for strawberries (top Italian producer with around 1000 dedicated hectares), which will dictate its communication strategy and a series of institutional actions and events in synergy with Basilicata's producers. The fair has been presented in recent days in Beijing, at the Spazio Italia of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China. The presentation event, organised by MacFrut and Cesena Fiera, with the cooperation of the Italian Trade Agency - ICE, CSO (Centro Servizi Ortofrutticoli), the Italian Embassy to China and the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, was attended by representatives of the Chinese government and Ministry of Agriculture, the Chinese and Italian press, over 45 buyers and fruit and vegetable importers, associations and opinion leaders from the sector. Information was provided during the event on the potential of the international market and the organisation of the 2017 event, following the Fair's 2016 edition that attracted over 38,000 specialised visitors, of which 24% came from foreign fruit and vegetable markets. Conference speakers included Basilicata's regional agricultural policy director Luca Braia, the Italian Ambassador to China, Ettore Francesco Sequi, and the Director of the ICE Beijing Office, Amedeo Scarpa.
