Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari said Iran will respond to any US interventionist action against the Islamic Republics defense program.

He made the remarks here on Thursday in reaction to certain media claims regarding introduction of fresh sanctions against Iranian individuals and companies by the US Congress.

The US Senate is seeking the new set of sanctions in reaction to what it referred to as Irans missile program.

Jaber Ansari said Tehran would respond to any kind of interventionist adventures by Washington in this regard.

Such actions are unilateral, arbitrary and illegal and the Islamic Republic of Iran has warned US in this respect, he added.

As the US officials have mentioned before, Iran missile program is not related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), he said.

He said there is nothing to prevent Iran from pursuing its legitimate right of reinforcing its defense strength and national security.

US government is reportedly preparing fresh sanctions on international companies and individuals over Irans missile program.

They would be the first financial sanctions on Iran since Tehran agreed to a landmark nuclear agreement in July and present a serious challenge to the accords implementation.
