Government of India has donated Rand two million (ZAR 2 million) to Ahmed Kathrada Foundation in South Africa. The decision to donate Rand 2 million was taken following the meeting between Prime Minister of India H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi and Mr. Ahmed Kathrada, a struggle hero of South Africaduring the Prime Minister's visit to South Africa in July 2016.

High Commissioner H.E. Ruchi Ghanashyam informed the Foundation of the Government of India's approval to donate Rand 2 million to Ahmed Kathrada Foundation at an event to celebrate Mr. Ahmed Kathrada's birthday organised by Ahmed Kathrada Foundation in September 2016. The High Commissioner presented the grant on January 17, 2017 to Mr. Ahmed Kathrada the founder and Neeshan Balton, Executive Director of Ahmed Kathrada Foundation. The donation is in recognition of the important role the Foundation plays in South Africa and will support the Foundation in full-filling its objectives.
