OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan 11, 2015) - One of the Fathers of Confederation, Canada's first prime minister, a businessman, lawyer and politician, Sir John A. Macdonald left an indelible mark at the heart of our collective heritage.

At a time when there was much talk about bringing the British colonies in North America together, he worked tirelessly to lay the groundwork for the great nation that we have since become. Considered the chief architect of our constitution, he had tremendous ambitions for the young, fast-growing country. Among his many laudable achievements, he succeeded in linking the provinces with the completion of a railroad that, to this day, stretches across much of our majestic landscape.

His determination, the time and energy he invested into realizing his vision form the very fabric of our country.

On this January 11, 2015, I am delighted to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Sir John A. Macdonald, and I invite all Canadians to take this opportunity to learn more about the fascinating story of this man, who played a key role in creating Canada.
