Thanks to a proclamation from Mayor Hopewell – one of hundreds of similar city and county proclamations – Jan. 21-27 will officially be School Choice Week in Kalamazoo. Dozens of governors across the country have also issued School Choice Week proclamations.

Michiganders have planned 877 events and activities to celebrate school choice and raise awareness of the educational opportunities parents have, or want to have, for their children. Across the country, 32,000 independently planned rallies, roundtable discussions, receptions, festivals, school fairs, and other events and activities will spark conversations about opportunity in education.

“We’re excited that Kalamazoo will be celebrating officially, and we’re grateful to Mayor Hopewell for issuing this proclamation,” said Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week. “It’s important that children, with their unique abilities and interests, can learn and grow in the educational setting that’s the best fit for them as individuals. We hope parents will be able to find the school or other option that works for their kids.”

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent, nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through thousands of independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
