Sen. John Eichelberger, Rep. Mike Reese, and Rep. Judy Ward will be speaking at a school choice press conference beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22 at the Capitol Rotunda.

Sen. Eichelberger is the chairman of the Senate Education Committee. Rep. Reese is the primary sponsor of HB, 97, a comprehensive charter school reform bill, and Rep. Ward is planning to introduce a special needs ESA bill in the near future.

In addition, a screening of a charter school short film, “A Tax Dollar More,” featuring Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Level 2, located at 215 N. 2nd Street.

This event is planned to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2018, which will feature more than 32,000 school choice events across all 50 states.

“Charter schools and the school choice movement are giving low-income, minority students a chance at a great quality education which is something that every child, no matter what their background is, deserves,” said Ana Meyers, executive director of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Public Charter Schools, which is hosting the event. “Regardless of the particular option a given parent selects, when parents and families choose, children win. Through school choice, children can study in an environment where they’re most interested in learning—motivating them in ways that will shine forth throughout their schooling. National School Choice Week is an opportunity for Pennsylvania to celebrate the fact that we are fortunate to have educational options for our children in our state.”

As a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for students, families, and communities around the country.
