Gov. Brownback has proclaimed this week to be School Choice Week in Kansas. The governor joins dozens of other governors and hundreds of city and county leaders nationwide in issuing official proclamations for National School Choice Week.

Throughout the Sunflower state, 281 independently planned events and activities will raise awareness about opportunity in education and spark conversations about what options are available – and what options parents want.

Those rallies, roundtable discussions, coffeehouse meet-ups, festivals, school fairs, and more are a part of the 32,000 events and activities taking place across the country during National School Choice Week.

“We’re grateful to Gov. Brownback for issuing this proclamation,” said Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week. “All parents, including Kansas parents, want their kids to grow and learn in whatever environment best fits their unique skills, talents, interests, and needs. We hope parents will talk with each other about their children’s schools so everyone is able to find the best fit for their kids.”

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent, nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through thousands of independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
