On 24 October 2017, Mr Peter ALTMAIER was appointed as Minister of Finance. He also becomes EIB Governor for the Federal Republic of Germany, succeeding Mr SCHÄUBLE.

Since December 2013, Mr ALTMAIER has held the position of Head of the Federal Chancellery and Federal Minister for Special Tasks. From May 2012 to December 2013, he was Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.

Between October 2009 and May 2012, Mr ALTMAIER was the First Parliamentary Secretary of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag.

Mr ALTMAIER has been a Member of the German Bundestag since 1994. Mr ALTMAIER was Civil servant at the European Commission and from 1993 to 1994 as Secretary General of the Administrative Commission of the European Communities on Social Security for Migrant Workers.

Following his First State examination in Law (1985), Mr ALTMAIER worked as a Research Assistant, Chair of Constitutional and International Law at the Saarland University, where he also completed his Second State examination in Law in 1988.
