Press release: 11.692-003/18

Vienna, 2018-01-03 - In 2017, the final results of the cereal harvest(incl. grain maize) showed a production of 4.86 million tons (-15% to 2016). According to Statistics Austria, this is a decrease of 6% compared to the long-term average. The summer season with dryness and heat over weeks was mainly responsible for the yield losses.

Dry pulses and oilseedsalso achieved an only small production of 433 100 tons. This result lies by 4% below the 2016 figure, but due to a significant area surplus for soy beans it surpassed the long-term average by 9% nonetheless. Root cropswith prospectively 3.59 million tons (lacking final results for sugar beets) will achieve a low harvest result as well (-17% compared with 2016; -10% in relation to the long-term average).
