CI response to Post-2015 Agenda report
23 Jan 2015

CI has welcomed the UN Secretary-General's synthesis report on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, but believes that not enough attention has been given to the role of consumer protection in delivering his vision of shared prosperity.

In response to the recent UN consultation 'Civil Society Reactions to the UN Secretary-General Synthesis Report on the Post-Development Agenda', CI has outlined the central role that consumer protection can play within sustainable development.

CI explained why the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection (UNGCP) provides a key means of implementation for the entire agenda, and also reiterated its call for the following target under the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • By 2030 ensure all countries have implemented the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection.

We were pleased to see that the Secretary General endorsed the goal to 'Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns'. CI has long campaigned for this goal and continues to work on this vital subject, primarily as co-lead of the UN's 10YFP Consumer Information Programme.
