Shares of retailers and other consumer companies rose as one survey showed an up-tick in consumer sentiment.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York said its Survey of Consumer Expectations for August showed "a continued decline in pessimism about households' financial situation."

Delta Air Lines is the latest carrier to use its frequent-flier program to secure cash to weather the coronavirus pandemic, announcing plans to raise $6.5 billion backed by its SkyMiles program. Delta follows United Airlines and other carriers who are tapping the miles programs for a capital cushion as the plunge in travel activity drains cash.

Vitamin seller GNC Holdings is moving ahead with a sale to China's Harbin Pharmaceutical Group after no other offers emerged, even as the deal drew scrutiny from Sen. Marco Rubio, as reported earlier.

Macy's said its iconic Thanksgiving parade will be reimagined as a television event this year.
