Caerphilly County Borough Council launches Bridges into Work 2, a new project which aims to help 500 jobless residents find employment by 2018.

The exciting project is funded by a grant from the European Social Fund and is designed to improve the skills of job seekers, aged over 25, to meet the needs of employers.

Employment support officers will be on hand for one to one support, helping people to write CV's, search for vacancies, identify appropriate vocational courses and break down any personal barriers to work.

In addition to the employment support for adults over 25, a sister project has been launched suitable for those 16 years and over called Working Skills for Adults 2. Working in a similar way to Bridges into Work 2 it offers vital support to those seeking to enhance skills and progress into employment.

The range of support includes;-

  • Tailored training, including essential skills - literacy and numeracy, Customer Service, IT courses, formal qualifications such as City and Guilds, ITQ (CLAIT) and Agored Cymru
  • A support programme to assist achievements of qualifications
  • Assistance in progression to further learning through FE, HE and Continuous Professional Development routes.

Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, Cllr. Rhianon Passmore, said, 'We are committed to supporting residents to gain new and build on existing skills with the aim of finding employment. Experienced and dedicated officers will offer tailored one to one support to break down barriers to work and create job ready candidates.'
