BOE Technology Group Co. Ltd., a semiconductor display company, has partnered with Rohinni, a micron-scale electronics company to launch BOE Pixey, a joint venture focused on mini and micro LED technology. The venture will manufacture LED backlights for LCD displays, direct emission displays and sensors for video walls, televisions and other products, according to a press release.

BOE Pixay will integrate Rohinni's mini and micro LED manufacturing process with BOE's expertise with display panels to craft ultra-thin displays with its mini LEDs, according to the release.

"Mini and micro LEDs promise has long been touted, but they have not been commercialized for these kinds of products before because making them in high volumes wasn't possible," Matthew Gerber, CEO, Rohinni, said in the release. "The combination of our two companies' extraordinary engineering talent will bring new development opportunities to the display industry."
