Argyll and Bute Council : Planning permission granted for oil depot development at Oban Airport

New depot will create jobs and provide kerosene heating oil for homes and business across Argyll and Bute

Argyll and Bute Council's Planning, Protective Services and Licensing (PPSL) committee today (Wednesday 18th January) approved a planning application from Oilfast to develop an oil depot on the site of the former roads depot next to Oban Airport.

Councillor David Kinniburgh, Chair of the PPSL, said: 'This is good news and will see a vacant industrial site brought back into use, creating jobs and providing a service for people across the council area.

'Oban Airport is identified as an area for action in our Scottish Government approved local development plan, and the council is committed to developing the airport as a strategic transport hub, expanding its operation and bringing in new businesses.

'This is a great example of the council working with a private business to make best use of public land. The site is ready to move in - it already has historic lawful use rights for storage and distribution and today's application was about the scale, layout and design of the facility, which is all in order. It is not uncommon for these types of facilities near housing developments.

'The council's planning service is about making things happen, supporting sustainable economic growth and regeneration.'
