U.S. stock indexes finished up Friday with the S&P 500 Index rising 0.1%. Meanwhile, the NASDAQ Composite Index added 0.1%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 0.1%.

The Russell 2000 Index of small-cap stocks gained 0.1%, while the Cboe Volatility Index was up 1.8%.

Among companies with at least $10 billion in market value, Shockwave Medical Inc., was the biggest leader, surging 10.2%, and Baxter International Inc. increased 4.7%. HCA Healthcare Inc. rounded out the top three leaders on Friday, with shares increasing 3.9%.

Albemarle Corp. posted the largest decline, declining 10%, followed by W.R. Berkley Corp. shares, which declined 9.2%. Shares of Truist Financial Corp. fell 6%.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index was flat at 95.91.

In commodities, Brent crude was flat at $81.64 a barrel, and WTI crude rose 0.5% to $77.79 a barrel. Gold futures were down 1.3%, and Bitcoin slipped 3.2% to $27,317.20.

The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury climbed to 3.567%.

In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 climbed 0.3%, while London's FTSE 100 added 0.1%.

In Asia, stocks were down as Japan's Nikkei 225 index dropped 0.3%, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined 1.6% and China's benchmark Shanghai Composite fell 2%.
