The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County has announced that Arsht UTIX has enrolled more than 1,000 students since launching in Nov. 2014. Arsht UTIX provides full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate level college students with $20 tickets to select performances at the Arsht Center throughout each season.

This deeply discounted ticket rate is available for a selection of the shows performed on the Arsht Center’s six, state-of-the-art stages. UTIX subscribers have experienced Broadway blockbusters, including The Book of Mormon and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, as well as special engagements with comedian Mike Birbiglia, San Francisco Symphony and Peter London Global Dance Company.

Upcoming performances available to UTIX registrants include shows from two of the Arsht Center’s signature series: Theater Up Close’s production of Into the Woods, running through Feb. 15, and Live at Knight’s A Night in New Orleans with Grammy and Billboard award-winning trumpeter Irvin Mayfield on Feb. 5. Broadway fans can purchase tickets for the upcoming production of Disney’s Newsies, making its South Florida premiere on Feb. 3.

“Reaching our 1,000th UTIX registrant after only two months shows there is a real desire from Florida’s next generation of leaders to experience and enjoy the arts,” said President and CEO John Richard. “We are committed to providing access to the performing arts for individuals of all ages and backgrounds, and look forward to welcoming many more students at the collegiate level to experience the innovative programming the Arsht Center showcases on its stages.”

Current full-time students can register, free of charge, for Arsht UTIX online at arshtcenter.org/UTIX. Registered students will be notified by e-mail when new performances become available. Performances eligible for the discounted tickets will also be listed on the Arsht UTIX page. Tickets will be offered in limited quantities, sometimes with a few days’ notice, and should be printed at home prior to arrival at the Arsht Center. A valid student ID for each ticket must be presented at the Center, along with the printed ticket, to gain admittance.

In addition to the Arsht UTIX program, the Center offers free tickets for select classical music performances to local youth through its “Arsht Student Access Program” and discounted tickets to a wide variety of performances in partnership with CultureShockMiami.com. The Center’s free Family Fest and Free Gospel Sundays series also offers complimentary tickets to children and families throughout the year.

UTIX subscribers are also able to enjoy the dining options available at the Center, including BRAVA!, a fine dining restaurant serving offering a pre-fixe menu prior to performances; the Café at Books & Books in the historic Carnival Tower and a weekly Farmers Market.
