Executives discuss the risks inherent in Willis Group Holdings' backing of a scientific expedition to the South Pole, focused on climate-change research, and led by 19 year old Yale University student. Parker Liautaud, 19, became the youngest person ever to ski to the South Pole, as he and his companion Doug Stoup set a speed record for an unsupported coast-to-pole trek. Josh King, senior vice president of communications and marketing at Willis Group Holdings, said the trek also was about drawing attention to climate change, which he said fit in well with the company's growing focus on resilience and sustainability. During the trip, Liautaud collected snow samples to contribute to a deeper understanding of global climate patterns. King, along with Rod Hughes, vice president of Pa.-based Kimball Communications, each noted that the public relations risks were substantial due to the possibility of injury and equipment failure because of the harsh environment.
