He co-founded Mercator in 1984.

He began his career in 1968 as an officer and portfolio manager with The Chase Manhattan Bank, and then Flagship National Bank of Miami (now SunTrust).
For several years, Mr. Spano was Director of Investments for American Birthright Trust, an investment adviser to mutual funds.
Mr. Spano received his MBA from Baruch College (City University of New York) and his BBA from St. John’s University.
He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the Investment Adviser Association and the CFA Society of South Florida.
