Prior to joining the ford foundation, Ms. McKeon was the lead special assistant to the USAID administrator.
She has focused most of her career on the economic and social problems of post-communist societies, through her work in civil society organizations, philanthropies and government.
She established field offices in Moscow in the early 1990s for the John D.
and Catherine T.
MacArthur Foundation and the International Research and Exchanges Board.
Later, in Washington, D.C., at the U.S.
Agency for International Development, she led sector assessments and designed major technical assistance programs for countries in Eastern Europe and Eurasia aimed at lowering unemployment, restructuring safety nets and increasing workforce competitiveness.
Ms. McKeon holds a master's degree in public policy from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and a bachelor's degree in languages from Georgetown University.
She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
She is a fluent Russian speaker.
She has taught and developed training courses on labor market analysis and has written on the tensions between preserving worker rights and pursuing competitive economic growth in a globalized world.
