East Alabama Medical Center is a 340-bed regional, referral center with an active medical staff of more than 145 physicians. The Medical Center serves a five-county area and offers programs and services in nearly every medical specialty, including a full range of inpatient and outpatient procedures. With, over 2500 employees East Alabama Medical Center is the area's second largest employer. In 1999, EAMC opened its Auburn Medical Park campus by offering the Camellia Place assisted and independent living community to area senior adults. A year later, HealthPlus Fitness Center and Bethany House-an inpatient hospice facility-opened on the same campus. Since then, EAMC has purchased two other assisted and independent living communities, as well as a nursing home and senior apartment complex.
