Mr. Black joined the Fund as Interim CEO in December 2004 and brings significant experience in operations, finance and investment portfolio management.
As of April 5, 2005, the board appointed Alfred as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the fund.
Mr. Black graduated from the University of Waterloo with a B.
Math (1972) and an M.
Math (1973) and began his career in social and income policy work with governments of Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and Canada.
Settling in Winnipeg, Mr. Black joined the Workers Compensation Board in 1989 and has held a series of senior positions in operations and finance.
Most recently Mr. Black's responsibilities included overseeing the investment portfolio as Vice-President of Employee Services and Progress Development.
Mr. Black has been an active volunteer in the community over the years, including chairing a Volunteer Bureau/Helpline, the Matrimonial Counseling Association, the Canadian Mental Health Association (Manitoba Division), the Juvenile Diabetes Resources Foundation (Winnipeg Chapter) and as a member of the New Directions Board (Winnipeg).
Mr. Black is the Chair of the Board of the Teachers' Retirement Allowance Fund and of its Investment Committee.
He is a Board and Executive Member of the Board of Governors of the University of Manitoba where he also chairs the Finance Committee and serves as a member of the University Investment Trust Committee.
