Alex Sloan

Mr. Alex Sloan is a Director of Innovation Investments at Skoll Foundation.
Mr. Sloan has spent his entire career investing in and successfully growing entrepreneurs in both for profit and nonprofit settings.
He has been a senior investment professional at several leading venture capital firms including Noribachi LLC, a Cleantech venture accelerator, and Cleantech venture firm Expansion Capital Partners.
Previous to Expansion Capital, he co-founded and was a partner at Blackwolf Partners, an early stage Cleantech venture capital firm.
He has also served as a venture investment professional and senior manager at JPMorgan Partners and Hambrecht & Quist.
He started his investing career in Vietnam working on one of the first venture capital funds in the country, The Vietnam Fund Limited.
On the nonprofit side, he has served for more than 20 years as Chairman and President of the Excelerate Foundation and its predecessor nonprofit organization.
Excelerate supports innovative non-profit organizations that initiate positive change and leadership in the areas of social entrepreneurship and community development.
He began his career as a political appointee at the US Agency for International Development.
He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise at Cornell University.
Mr. Sloan earned a BA degree in International Relations and Asian Studies from Tulane University, studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and holds an MBA from Cornell University.
