FEDERAL EIS APPROVAL FOR ROPER BAR IRON ORE PROJECT

Key Points:

Roper Bar Environmental Impact Study ("EIS") approved by the Federal Minister for Environment.

Federal EIS approval concludes major regulatory approvals for mine development.

All approvals from mine to ship's rail now in place.

The Directors of Western Desert Resources Limited (ASX: WDR) are pleased to advise the Roper Bar Iron Ore Project Environmental Impact Study (EIS) has been approved by the Federal Minister for the Environment.
Recommendation for approval by the Northern Territory Minister for the Environment was received in September.
This completes the major regulatory approvals process required for development of the Roper Bar iron ore mine.

The Federal approval completes a raft of significant achievements by WDR this year including:

A Native Title Agreement between the Northern Land Council (NLC), Native Title

Holders and WDR;

A Load Facility Agreement with Mount Isa Mines Limited (MIM) providing for access to an area on MIM's Mineral Lease at Bing Bong in the Gulf of Carpentaria;

Declaration of Major Project Status by the Northern Territory Government;

JORC resource upgrade at Area E (East) and Area E (South) bringing the global resource base at Roper Bar to 402Mt @ 40% Fe, including DSO-grade component of

32.1Mt @ 56.8% Fe;

Capital raising comprising a placement to sophisticated and professional investors to raise up to A$85m, and an entitlement offer to WDR shareholders to raise approximately A$15m;

Grant of five Mineral Leases covering the Roper Bar mining area;

Grant of Access Authority for 165 km haul road to Bing Bong loading facility;

Advanced infrastructure development for mine site and transport corridor;

Acquisition of 100% interest in Tianda tenement EL 25688.

Background

The Roper Bar Iron Ore Province covers about 1,900 km2 within eight granted exploration licenses in the Northern Territory and includes an estimated 100 km2 of outcrop of the target Sherwin Formation which hosts extensive hematite iron ore horizons. The Province is divided into two project areas - Roper Bar and Mountain Creek.
