Zapolyarye-Purpe oil trunk pipeline was brought online on 18 January 2017. The new pipeline was launched by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin duringin a videoconference from Moscow.

Viktor Bronnikov, Director General of Transneft Siberia, announced readiness of the Zapolyarye-Purpe facilities for operation from the control centre of the Zapolyarye pipe-end pump station (YNAD).

The Zapolyarye-Purpe oil pipeline stretching 488 km and having capacity of 45 MTPA is part of the Zapolyarye-Purpe-Samotlor pipeline system. Commissioning a new facility will enable delivering oil from new fields in the north of Krasnoyarsk rRegion and Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District to refineries in Russia and for export. Nowadays, the length of the Zapolyarye-Purpe-Samotlor pipeline system running in two constituent entities of the Russian Federation - the Yamal-Nenets and Khanty-Mansiysk aAutonomous dDistricts - totals nearly 1,000 kilometres.

The Zapolyarye-Purpe oil pipeline is an exceptional project featuring cutting-edge construction techniques and innovative solutions. Two laying methods were determined when designing the pipeline, in view of the oil transportation conditions and severe geotechnical profile of the terrain: underground and aboveground. Transneft had not previously applied aboveground method of oil trunk pipeline construction in similar conditions.

The first joint of the Zapolyarye-Purpe trunk pipeline was welded in March 2012. Construction was made in extremely rough environment. Successful completion in such short time became possible due to involvement of more than 8,000 workers and more than 1,500 pieces of heavy machinery.

The oil pipeline facilities include two new pump stations - Zapolyarye pipe-end pump station, and Yamal booster pump station. The existing Pur-Pe line operation dispatcher station was expanded, followed by the erection of eight oil heating stations, a production site in Korotchaevo Ssettlement, and building of the executive office at the Urengoy Oil Trunk Pipeline Directorate. All the facilities were fitted with sophisticated Russia-made equipment.

In the scope of implementing its 'Zapolyarye-Purpe pipeline system' project Transneft has applying broad-scale efforts to pursue development of social infrastructure in the Far North. The project has helped arranging new jobs, building residential houses, a nursery school, a sports centre, new roads, modern utility systems, and bridge crossings.
