(Alliance News) - The Tuscan Airport System recorded a record-breaking May, surpassing the 800,000-passenger mark for the first time and reaching a total of 890,000 passengers served by the airports of Florence and Pisa in total, up 15.6 percent compared to the same month in 2023.

As announced by Toscana Aeroporti on Wednesday, this result is due to both the increase in the number of commercial flights by 14 percent and the load factor, or aircraft fill rate, which stands at 84.8 percent and up by 0.7 percent.

In the first five months of 2024, the Tuscan Airport System exceeded 3 million passengers for the first time, an increase of 14% compared to the same period in 2023.

Florence's Amerigo Vespucci Airport contributed significantly to this positive trend, registering a new monthly record in May with about 354,000 passengers and up 22 percent from 2023. This increase was due to both an 18 percent increase in the number of commercial flights and the load factor, which rose to 82.2 percent or 1.2 percent. In May, there is an improvement for both domestic traffic by 47 percent and international traffic by 18 percent.

The most popular destinations with scheduled flights are Paris, London, Amsterdam, Rome, and Barcelona. In the first five months of the year, the Florentine airport recorded a new monthly record for any single month, reaching 1.3 million passengers and up 25 percent from the same period last year.

Pisa's Galileo Galilei Airport also reached an all-time high in May with 536,000 passengers, up 12 percent from May 2023. Also at Pisa, there is an improvement in both the number of flights by 10 percent and the load factor, which stands at 86.5 percent and up 0.4 percent. International traffic continues to grow by 19 percent, offsetting the 5.7 percent decline in domestic traffic. The favorite destinations for passengers at Pisa Airport with scheduled flights are London, Tirana, Paris, Catania and Palermo.

In the first five months of 2024, Pisa Airport recorded 1.9 million passengers, up 7.2 percent from the same period in 2023.

Toscana Aeroporti's stock is unchanged at EUR11.85 per share.
