The SPAR Group Ltd. (JSE:SPP), the operator of SPAR Polska, has announced that it is planning to sell all Polish stores, of which there are more than 200, by the end of the current financial year, i.e. 30 September 2024. The announcement does not come as a surprise as the South Africa-based group said in September 2023 that having evaluated and considered all options, the Board of Directors believed that it was in the best interests of the group and the shareholders to engage in a process to dispose of its stores in Poland. SPAR has been operating on the Polish market since 2018, when it took over the indebted supermarket chain Piotr i Pawel.
