Ted Decker, who was Home Depot's COO as of yesterday, takes on the role of CEO as of today.

The former chief, Craig Menear, who has worked for the home improvement retailer for more than two decades, will continue to serve on the retailer's board as chairperson, according to a CNBC report. He had been named CEO in 2014.

Decker is also a longtime Home Depot leader and has been at the company for 22 years. His previous roles included chief merchant and EVP of merchandising. He was named to his COO role two years ago.

"His ability to blend the art and science of retail is exactly what is needed in the next phase of growth for The Home Depot," Menear stated about Decker in a news release. "I have tremendous confidence that he will guide our company to new heights."
