January 20, 2012, Columbus, GA - Synovus Bank, the Georgia-chartered, FDIC-insured bank, today announced that Dominic A. DiMaio, Jr. has been named President and CEO of Synovus Bank of Florida, a division of Synovus Bank. DiMaio will succeed David W. Dunbar, who will retire on April 1, 2012. Dunbar will continue to serve as Chairman of the local board of directors of Synovus Bank of Florida.

DiMaio is a 20-year banking professional who has been with Synovus Bank of Florida since 2006. He has served as a senior lending executive in the Sarasota market, and in 2008, was named market president of the Southwest Florida bank division based in Naples, Florida. DiMaio was named President and Chief Operating Officer for Synovus Bank of Florida in 2010. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Masters of Business Administration degree, both from WidenerUniversity in Chester, Pennsylvania.

Dunbar joined Synovus in 2004 when the company purchased Peoples Bank in Pinellas and PascoCounties, which he organized and founded. During his tenure as CEO, he led the consolidation of four independent Synovus affiliates along Florida's west coast into Synovus Bank of Florida. He was named Regional CEO for Synovus in 2009, overseeing bank divisions in Pensacola, Valparaiso, Tallahassee and Mobile, in addition to being chairman and CEO of the TampaBay division. Dunbar was a founding member of the board for the Pinellas Education Foundation and served as Chairman of the Board for both MortonPlantMeaseHospitals and the BayCare Health System. He was also appointed by two Florida governors to serve on the Taxation and Budget Reform Commission and the Florida Elections Commission.
