SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation extends Cambridge scholarships for 12 mainland students in 2012

The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation recently extended its scholarship programme at Cambridge University to let 12 mainland students to pursue doctorate or master's degrees with scholarship of £24,000 annually for each student.

The Foundation promotes education and helps talented mainland students study abroad.  This programme has helped top students with limited means to study at Cambridge since 2004, covering three years for doctorates and one year for master's degrees.  The students are expected to return home immediately after graduation and contribute to the development of their disciplines and research.

The Foundation has helped many students to realize their dreams of studying abroad.  Foundation Executive Director Amy Kwok related some inspiring stories at the signing ceremony, including one about a mainland student studying medicine, who was inspired to pursue further training to improve the welfare of patients in China.

Ms Kwok said that the Foundation is working to help more disadvantaged students in the future: "We follow our late father Kwok Tak Seng's belief in training talented people for the nation.  I hope the students will value this great opportunity to learn and contribute to the nation.  I also offer my special thanks to the University of Cambridge for working with us to help more mainland students further their studies abroad."

The programme is now open to applications from mainland students (including those studying at tertiary institutions in Hong Kong).  Scholarships will be given to two doctorate and ten master's degree students, with no restrictions on discipline or dissertation topic.  The scholarships are endorsed by the Chinese Ministry of Education, which will assist with publicity and gathering applications on the mainland.  The deadline is March 31, 2012.

The Foundation also sponsors and develop the China Executive Leadership Programme for senior China government officials and senior mainland executives to study at Cambridge and an exchange programme for Cambridge students to study on the mainland.  It has disbursed more than HK$20 million to over 450 beneficiaries since 2004.
