SMRT statement on Circle Line disruption between Marina Bay and Promenade stations

On 19 January at around 12.08pm, train service between Circle Line (CCL) Marina Bay and Promenade stations was disrupted due to a fault on a signaling equipment along the track. Train service on the affected stretch resumed at 12.40pm.
Train service between CCL Dhoby Ghaut and Harbourfront was generally unaffected, as we introduced two loop services that plied between CCL Dhoby Ghaut and Stadium stations and between CCL Stadium and HarbourFront stations. This is to maintain the same service frequency as trains plying between Promenade to Esplanade Stations were travelling slower, for safety reasons.
Announcements were made in all Circle Line stations and on affected trains to inform passengers of the disruption. Signs were also put up at the affected stations to inform passengers. Staff were also deployed at these stations and in affected trains to guide passengers. In addition, SMRT issued travel advisories through Twitter@smrt_singapore, radio stations and media to inform passengers of the service disruption and alternative transport arrangements including bus bridging services.
SMRT activated free bus bridging service between Circle Line Marina Bay and Promenade stations at 12.08pm. This service was made known to passengers through announcements at the affected stations, as well as from the staff in the stations. Affected passengers could also board SMRT Bus Service 106 at the bus stops outside Suntec City (near Carrefour) and outside the entrances of Circle Line Bayfront station and Circle Line Marina Bay station for free.
Free boarding for SMRT Bus Service 106 at the three bus stops stopped at 12.30pm when train service resumed, while the free bus bridging service continued till 1.35pm. About 300 passengers were affected by the disruption.
SMRT is investigating the cause of the signalling fault and apologises for the inconvenience caused. Passengers who were unable to complete their journeys due to the disruption can obtain a refund at the Passenger Service Centre in any of SMRT's 82 stations.
