Poultry farming is a family affair for the Nguyen family as their aunts, uncles and cousins are all poultry farmers. Phuong Tran Farm is owned and operated by Trong Dinh Nguyen and located in Ore City, Texas. The eight-house broiler farm is named after his wife, Phuong Tran, and they have been married for 14 years and have one daughter and one son.

While the Nguyen family has been growing chickens for Sanderson Farms for 11 years, they built and have owned Phuong Tran Farm for only one year. Prior to building broiler houses for Sanderson Farms' Tyler, Texas production division, they were breeder growers for the company's Waco, Texas production division.

The Nguyens previous poultry experience with breeder chickens has made the transition to broilers easier for them. 'Having previous experience, they understand it's not just about themselves, they are a part of a much bigger picture,' said Ryan Spigener, broiler flock supervisor for Sanderson Farms' Tyler, Texas production division. 'They know how one department affects another one because they have seen it first hand by going from breeders, where eggs are produced, to broilers.'

Over the years, Nguyen has seen chicken farming advance and improve with new technology and equipment. 'The whole operation is controlled with a computer system,' said Nguyen. 'New, stronger construction and better equipment are some of the improvements that help us produce a happy, healthy chicken.'

Because of this technology in poultry farming, Nguyen feels confident that he has provided our birds with the best environment possible to sustain healthy growth. 'The chickens receive proper care such as water, nutrition and protection from the weather and outside predators,' said Nguyen.

Nguyen takes pride in his farm and enjoys the benefits of farming that support his family. 'I enjoy growing chickens for Sanderson Farms because it provides a very good living,' said Nguyen. 'I also have time to stay with my family including my wife and children.'
