Rite Aid Raises More Than $590,000 for the United Way of the Capital Region

Company Has Raised Nearly $5.8 Million Since 2002

Camp Hill, Pa. (Jan. 23, 2013) - Rite Aid announced today that associates in its corporate offices located throughout the greater Harrisburg area have raised $590,159 during its 2012 fundraising campaign for the United Way of the Capital Region. Rite Aid is one of the largest supporters and has raised nearly $5.8 million for the United Way of the Capital Region since becoming a supporter in 2002.

"One of our company's core values is to be a caring neighbor, involved in the communities we serve in meaningful ways," said John Standley, Rite Aid Chairman, President and CEO. "I'm proud of how our associates took our campaign theme, 'Give and Live United,' to heart and raised an amazing amount of money to help those in our own backyard who need it the most."

Rite Aid's associate giving campaign kicked off on Oct. 1. The company also raised money during its 2012 campaign through a silent online auction, a miniature golf outing, a departmental basket challenge and a series of pancake breakfasts across its corporate offices.

"For over a decade, Rite Aid has provided invaluable support to the United Way of the Capital Region, our program partners and most importantly, people in need across Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties," said Joe Capita, United Way of the Capital Region President and CEO. "Through their fall fundraising campaign and year-round involvement in our programs, it's clear that Rite Aid associates truly live united throughout the year. We are proud to have Rite Aid as a partner."

In addition to raising funds for the United Way of the Capital Region each fall, Rite Aid also underwrites a portion of the costs for the production and printing of the United Way of the Capital Region's campaign materials, which are used by companies conducting associate giving campaigns. Each year, Rite Aid associates participate in the organization's "Day of Caring" program, the areas' largest one-day event set aside for volunteer opportunities at local non-profit agencies. Rite Aid associates are also involved in the Bridges Society and the Women's Leadership Network, two organizations within the United Way of the Capital region focused on volunteerism and philanthropy. And for the first time, this year, the company participated in the United Way of the Capital Region's Annual Tricycle Race, with a team of Rite Aid associates who showed their pedaling skills while raising awareness for the United Way of the Capital Region.

The United Way of the Capital Region's mission is to help change lives in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties by raising money through a community-wide campaign, identifying long-term and emerging needs, finding solutions to address those needs, and measuring results that show donors how their dollars are making a difference.
