The Board of QEM Limited appointed Company founder Mr. Gavin Loyden as Managing Director of QEM, enabling current Executive Director David Fitch to transition to a role of Non-Executive Director of QEM. Mr. Loyden founded QEM (formerly known as Queensland Energy & Minerals Pty Ltd), identifying, acquiring and developing the company's Julia Creek Project. He was responsible for the early capitalisation of QEM and oversaw the initial exploration program and scoping study, which resulted in a large JORC resource being identified.

Mr. Loyden was forced to resign from the Company in mid-2018 due to deteriorating and painful neck and back problems. He is currently a substantial shareholder, with a 20.6% holding in the Company. He is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Queensland Exploration Council and the Queensland Resources Council. Current Managing Director and substantial shareholder Mr. David Fitch will remain on the Board as a Non-Executive Director.
